About Me
Hi, my name is Annette. I’ve been homeschooling for over 12 years. I ran a thriving alternative school and daycare in South Louisiana for 8 years until my kids and I moved to Austin in 2024. I began alternative schooling because I believe children need space to be young and play with plenty of support and access to education. I knew that many working parents do not have access to homeschooling/alternative schooling, and it’s been my mission to provide that opportunity. In 2024, I took a two-year break to attend grad school, and now that I’ve graduated, I’m ready to restart the lifestyle my family is passionate about and provide a service for other families.
About ATX Roaming Scholars
Roaming Scholars is a mobile summer camp that offers spots for youth ages 6 and up. We visit museums, libraries, parks, splash pads, and more.
Our camp uses a combination of philosophies. We believe education is a lifestyle (a nod to Charlotte Mason) and that we are learning all the time (a nod to John Holt). We are here to partner with children on their journey, not to control them or force-feed education.
“If we are partners in their learning experience, children will excel” — Akilah Richards
We believe in giving young people access to community, education, and exploration, and letting them take it from there. The camp is designed to provide exposure to educational experiences without ever expecting them to perform what they learn.
ATX Roaming Scholars is a mobile summer camp. Our base location is my residence, but most of our time will be spent exploring museums, libraries, parks, and attending various events.
“Not all classrooms have four walls.”
